Welcome

Thanks for visiting georgeheinz.com. I live with my wife high in the Gallatin Mountains above Paradise Valley, Montana, which is north of Yellowstone National Park. I’m the writer and host of the Inside Yellowstone and the Visiting Yellowstone podcasts that are seen on Yellowstone’s official website (www.nps.gov/yell) as well as on iTunes. I’m also the voice of the Old Faithful webcam.

I first came to Paradise Valley and Yellowstone as an 18 year old from Louisville, Kentucky. I was looking for adventure and I found it. For the last 30 plus years, I have worked as an Interpretive Ranger at the Old Faithful Visitor Education Center, as a Bear Education and Protection Ranger, as a Wolf Project Technician, as a snowcoach driver and I have held many other jobs in and around the Old Faithful area. I was the first ranger in the history of the National Park Service to conduct live regularly scheduled programs on the internet. Yellowstone has touched every aspect of my life.

I graduated from Montana State University with a BS in Earth Sciences and a minor in writing. But, my real education came on the trails of Yellowstone.
During our spare time, my wife and I hike, ski, kayak, canoe and raft throughout the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. I have also captained sailboats through the British Virgin Islands and off the west coasts of Washington and British Columbia, including the San Juan Islands and Desolation Sound.

During the winter of 2010-2011, I have been researching the feasibility of starting a one man tour company that will be called Yellowstone Paradise Adventures. I hope to offer guided trips through the park that will focus on photography and day hiking. I also hope to offer rafting daytrips and overnights on the Yellowstone River through Paradise Valley. As of now, this is still in the dream phase.

If you would like to visit Yellowstone with a retired park ranger or spend a day or two rafting through Paradise Valley, Montana during the summer of 2012 please contact me.
